Arquitecturas Anónimas (2). "La Forma sigue a la Función" / Anonymous Architecture. "Form follows Function"

- Architecture&Criticism -

"Forms follows Function". With this accurate phrase Louis Sullivan defined the spirit that inspired the Modern Architecture, which started yet at the end of XIX century. It was contained in the great engeenering works that were constructed in that moment all over the world: big ocean liners, steel bridgets, etc. The shape of architecture started to be conditionated by the function of the building, not only in the big scale of buildings and engeenering works, but as well in smaller designs as the one shown in the image: a simple post supporting power lines. However, this design is the consecuence of an intellectual act, in which the function and the measure are the cause that produces an "objective" shape without ornaments or other superflual elements. It focuses entirely in the maintenance of installación.
